JULY 2007

Dear Friends...

Over the past year the Outreach Group have tried to organise a variety of events both at the church and at outside venues. We are pleased that the events have attracted not only members of the church community but also a good number of visitors. The Good Friday event hosted by Brian and June Roseveare will stand out for many people as a highlight of the year, and we would like to thank the great number of people without whose help and support we could not have organised that event.

The spring and summer and have also seen a skittles evening, a flower festival and our meal at the New Country Inn, and we are encouraged that a wide variety of different people attending these events and inviting guests to join them. It was very good to see so many people, including a great number from outside the church join us for the Noise weekend, especially the Curry Night and, despite the wet weather forcing us indoors, the Community Event on Bank Holiday Monday.

If we are to meet the aims of our outreach programme, we must, of course, continually be moving forwards and over the course of the next twelve months we are planning to introduce some new initiatives alongside our regular programme of special events.

One regular outreach opportunity that we have within the church is our OASIS coffee bar on Saturday mornings, and from the autumn we hope to be able to extend that by opening up on weekday lunchtimes as well. If this initiative is to be successful we will need the help of a team of volunteers to run the coffee bar, serving drinks and biscuits - if you would be interested in helping with this please speak to Avril Baker.

We are also hoping to be able to run several other courses to which we can invite people on the fringes of our church community as well as those outside, including food hygiene and parenting courses, and in the New Year we plan to run another course of Christianity Explored.

These new initiatives will run alongside our regular programme of special events, the first of which will be a trip to Cardiff on Saturday 1 September, with an opportunity to tour some of the local churches as well as do a bit of shopping. This day will mark the end of our annual summer Holiday Club as well as taking us in the new church year. For our Harvest Festival at the end of September, we will be holding a special event at Dupath Farm in Cornwall. Those of you who came on the Good Friday Treasure Hunt will remember our stop at Dupath and we are pleased to be able to go back to the farm for this event.

In October we will once again be holding an alternative "Hallowe'en" party for children and teenagers, after which we plan to show a film for the whole church community and friends. Many of you will remember the visit of Marilyn Baker last year, and we are pleased that Marilyn will be visiting us again for a concert on Saturday 17 November as well as for our annual memorial service the following day.

Following our usual programme of Christmas services for all ages, we will move into the New Year with another Quiz Night on Friday 25 January. The beginning of March will see another visit from Bryn Haworth as part of his “Winter Blues” tour, with a concert on Saturday 8 March. This will lead us on to our Easter services, with Easter Day falling early on 23 March.

Moving into May, the May Day Bank Holiday will again see the annual "Noise" weekend. All those who came to our Flower Festival in May this year agreed that it was a wonderful occasion, and we will be holding another festival on Saturday 10 May next year. This falls on the weekend of Pentecost, and that will form the theme for the event.

One week later on 17 and 18 May, we look forward to a weekend with Tony Anthony of Avanti Ministries, who will be sharing his dramatic life story with us and providing an opportunity for everyone to invite people to hear about the transforming power of Jesus. Further events will be planned for later in the summer, and details of these will be available in our next Outreach News in January.

More detailed information about all our outreach events and initiatives will be available soon, please look out for further publicity at the church and on our website. We are thankful for the support we have received from you over the past year, and also for your continued support and prayers for the outreach programme.

God bless you.
