THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

This section of the site gives a brief introduction to the Christian Faith, explaining what it is that we believe and giving some information about the Bible.

We believe that the universe and everything in it was created by God, who exists in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God loves each one of us, yet our relationship with Him has been broken by our unbelief and disobedience. Through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, He came into the world in human form to seek after us and save us. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, and then died on the cross, taking the punishment for all our sins.

Jesus has risen from the dead and is calling us now to follow Him. He offers us forgiveness for the past, new life for the present and hope for the future. If we accept that Jesus' death was the punishment for our sins, and believe that Jesus is our saviour, our relationship with God will be repaired. With grateful thanks we offer God our worship and service, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For many people, one verse in the Bible provides the clearest expression of what Christians believe. Taken from John's Gospel, chapter three and verse sixteen, it is one of the most commonly quoted verses in the whole Bible.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV)

We believe that the Bible, although written by men, is in fact the Word of God and that it is through the words of the Bible that God speaks to people today. By reading and understanding the Bible, we can build our relationship with God and come closer to Him. We also believe that we can move closer to God through prayer, by bringing to Him our thanksgivings and concerns for things in our own lives and those of others.
