Over the past weekend, I had the opportunity to see the musical Wicked with some friends of mine. Knowing nothing about the back story of the show or even that it was a musical, I must say I was mesmerized with everything about this show as it explains the relationship between the good and wicked witches in The Wizard of Oz. I loved it so much I just ordered more Wicked musical tickets to see it again.
If you are anything like me, then you are under the misconception that the musical Wicked follows the novel exactly. While true, the musical did follow the novel as a guide but often diverges wildly from the narrative. In the end, the changes improve the work, in my opinion, answering some of story’s ironies with interlaced social commentary. The real reason for the heavy Chicago theater tickets lines is the score which is heavily thematic, with more resemblance to a film score than a traditional musical.

The plot is mostly set before Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas, however there are a few references to popular scenes and dialogue in the The Wizard of Oz film.
Their story of is only one of numerous story lines and subplots in a carefully constructed, surprise-filled musical adventure. The price to buy Wicked tickets is most definitely worth it. Our seats were located on the left side orchestra, just a few seats back from the stage! The Wicked tour production was simply outstanding and quite professional. Everything from the stage design and costumes to the actors were excellent. The actress who played Glinda was funny enough that her antics and gestures drew laughs from the audience. The portrayal of Elphaba was captivating enough that Wicked the musical tickets are sold out for the next few months.
